New images suggest China’s J-36 sixth-generation fighter is nearing a fifth prototype

Aviation analyst Andreas Rupprecht said structural differences between early and late sightings make it unlikely the footage shows repeated modifications of one aircraft.

Fresh images and footage have circulated suggesting what some observers believe could be a fifth prototype of China’s J-36 sixth-generation combat aircraft, as Beijing competes to develop future air superiority capabilities.

South China Morning Post cites aviation analyst Andreas Rupprecht, who said the structural differences between the earliest and latest examples make it unlikely the sightings are simply the same aircraft undergoing repeated modifications.

Rupprecht also cautioned that it remains difficult to assess the claims with certainty, though he said there is some strong evidence if the reports from reliable sources are taken as a basis.
