Star of the West secures $450,000 grant for new Quincy corn mill
The funding backs a $79 million dry corn mill expected to process over 5 million bushels in year one and reach 6.7 million bushels annually by year five.
Star of the West Milling Co. has received a $450,000 grant from the Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development through its Food and Agriculture Investment Program, World Grain reports.
The company will use the FAIP support for a $79 million development project to build a new dry corn mill in Quincy, Michigan, on the site of its former wheat flour mill. The plan includes razing existing mill and warehouse structures and constructing a six story slipform building to house the new milling operation, plus feed storage and loadout, bulk truck and rail loadout, and tote filling capacity.
Star of the West expects the facility to be completed in 2028. The mill is projected to process more than 5 million bushels of Michigan food grade corn in year one, rising to more than 6.7 million bushels per year by year five, with daily processing capacity above 21,000 bushels, according to the commission.
In remarks carried by World Grain, Star of the West’s Karina Spencer said the investment will help strengthen the company’s supply chain, create opportunities for Michigan agriculture, and support long term economic growth in the community. The report adds that Star of the West is a diversified agribusiness based in Frankenmuth, Michigan, with operations across multiple states.
