Hong Kong economy grows 4.3% in Q2 as exports and demand stay resilient
The government expects solid growth for the rest of 2026, while warning that Middle East tensions and uncertainty over US monetary policy could be headwinds.
Hong Kong’s economy expanded 4.3% year on year in the second quarter of 2026, according to government figures, as officials said momentum should remain supportive through the rest of the year.
South China Morning Post reports the government attributed the growth to buoyant external trade and resilient domestic demand, pointing to vibrant global demand for artificial intelligence-related products that should lift merchandise exports.
Officials also said services exports should benefit from sustained growth in visitor arrivals and steady demand for financial and business services, but they cautioned that external risks remain.
The government highlighted lingering headwinds, including geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, uncertainties around US monetary policy, and trade protectionist measures among major advanced economies, and said these factors warrant close monitoring.
