VanEck ends HODL Bitcoin ETF zero sponsor fee period July 31

HODL ended the waiver period with $1.076 billion in net assets, or 43.0% of the $2.5 billion threshold, so the 0.20% sponsor fee now applies to all trust assets.

VanEck’s Bitcoin ETF HODL, which is subject to a sponsor fee waiver, ended its zero-sponsor-fee period on July 31, according to CryptoSlate. The fund reported $1.076 billion in net assets as of July 30, equal to 43.0% of the waiver’s $2.5 billion asset threshold.

CryptoSlate reports that VanEck’s fee waiver worked in stages, with the sponsor waiving fees on the first $2.5 billion of trust assets through July 31. Because HODL finished about $1.424 billion below that threshold, it remained fully covered by the waiver through its final day.

After July 31, the sponsor fee of 0.20% applies to all trust assets, based on VanEck’s latest fee-waiver filing, CryptoSlate said. The outlet also noted that there was no announced extension by Friday morning and no newer fee-waiver filing appeared in the SEC submissions feed.

CryptoSlate added that at the July 30 asset level, a 0.20% annual sponsor fee would translate to about $2.15 million if assets stayed unchanged, and that the sponsor fee is distinct from other potential costs such as commissions, spreads, premiums or discounts to net asset value, taxes, and other expenses. The fund recorded net outflows totaling $87.6 million across 169 sessions from Nov. 25 through July 30, while HODL also brought in $2.3 million on July 30.
