Xiaomi prices new extended-range SUVs 23% below Tesla Model Y L
Xiaomi said deliveries for the N70 Max and N90 Max, priced at 259,900 yuan and 299,900 yuan, are expected to start in September.
Xiaomi has set aggressive prices for two new extended-range SUVs in China, under its SkyNomad series, positioning the N70 Max about 23.0% below Tesla’s Model Y L. SCMP Economy reports Xiaomi’s five-seat N70 Max will start at 259,900 yuan, while the seven-seat N90 Max will begin at 299,900 yuan, compared with Tesla’s 339,000 yuan starting price for the Model Y L.
The outlet says deliveries of both Xiaomi models are expected to start in September. Xiaomi also said the extended-range category reflects vehicles that can travel more than 1,000 km on a single charge, enabled by a small petrol-powered engine that recharges the battery without driving the wheels.
SCMP Economy adds that Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun said the company spent three and a half years developing its Kunlun architecture for assembling the new cars. Lei also highlighted features including reconfigurable seating and “off-road capabilities,” along with Xiaomi’s Dragon Armour battery system optimized for performance and safety in range-extended vehicles.
Deutsche Bank, cited by SCMP Economy, attributed the pricing to Xiaomi’s full-year volume target of 550,000 units. With 180,055 units sold in the first half, the note says Xiaomi would need to sell about 61,000 units per month on average in the second half of 2026 to reach that goal.
