Berkshire boosts Alphabet stake after AI infrastructure stock sale
Berkshire bought about $10 billion of Alphabet shares in a June private placement tied to an $80 billion stock sale to fund AI infrastructure.
Berkshire Hathaway has been increasing its ownership in Alphabet, starting its initial buys in the third quarter of 2025 and expanding through subsequent purchases in 2026, according to an analysis by Yahoo Finance.
The investment totals more than $23 billion of Alphabet Class A shares and about $6 billion of Class C shares. The report says Berkshire bought roughly 18 million Alphabet shares in the third quarter of 2025, then added about 40 million more shares in the first quarter of 2026.
In June, the company participated in a private placement connected to an $80 billion stock sale aimed at funding artificial intelligence infrastructure investments. Yahoo Finance reports that Alphabet sold $10 billion of stock to Berkshire Hathaway in that deal, with Berkshire purchasing $5 billion of GOOGL at $351.81 per share and $5 billion of GOOG at $348.20 per share.
The report also links Berkshire’s move to confidence in Alphabet’s position in cloud infrastructure and its approach to building and using chips for AI, citing Alphabet’s ranking as the third-largest player globally in cloud infrastructure with a 14% market share as of the first quarter of 2026.
