China warns Manila it has a “rich and powerful” toolbox for SCS

China’s military mouthpiece warned Manila that Beijing has a “rich and powerful” toolkit for safeguarding peace and stability in the South China Sea, after the Philippines moved to map out its claim to a disputed shoal, according to SCMP Economy.

The PLA Daily warning came a day after China carried out joint naval and air drills near Scarborough Shoal, which is contested and referred to as Huangyan Island in China and Panatag Shoal in the Philippines.

The article, published under the pen name Jun Sheng or “Voice of the Military,” said Beijing issued a stern warning to forces seeking to stir up trouble, though it did not outline what other countermeasures might include.

SCMP Economy added that the drills were part of a range of countermeasures Beijing took over the weekend.
