Wheat prices fall into weekend, with managed money trimming shorts

Chicago SRW futures closed down 18 1/4 to 24 1/4 cents, while 2026/27 export sales reached 6.979 MMT, about 33% of the USDA estimate.

Wheat prices moved lower into the weekend, with losses across the wheat complex tied to money moving out at month end, according to Yahoo Finance.

Chicago SRW contracts fell 18 1/4 to 24 1/4 cents at the close. September was down 38 3/4 cents for the week, though it was still up 50 cents on the month. KC HRW futures closed down 13 3/4 to 23 1/4 cents, with September down 37 3/4 cents on the week but up 82 1/4 cents in July. MPLS spring wheat declined 11 to 21 3/4 cents on Friday, and September fell 24 1/2 cents on the week.

Weekly Commitment of Traders data showed managed money in CBT wheat futures and options cutting its net short by another 12,469 contracts in the week ending July 28, leaving it with a net short of 6,880 contracts. In KC wheat, managed money added 3,289 contracts to its net long, which rose to 33,233 contracts.

On the demand side, export sales data put total wheat sales for 2026/27 at 6.979 MMT, representing 33% of the USDA current export estimate and lagging the 39% average sales pace. FranceAgriMer estimated the French soft wheat crop at 65% good/excellent as of July 27, with the harvest listed as complete.
