Hashdex to liquidate its spot Bitcoin ETF, sell about 225 BTC
The fund will distribute cash to remaining shareholders and plans to liquidate in the coming weeks after weighing trading liquidity, operating costs and investor interest.
Hashdex said it will liquidate its spot price Bitcoin exchange traded fund this month, paying out remaining shareholders and selling the fund’s roughly 225 BTC holdings over the coming weeks, according to Cointelegraph.
The issuer cited its evaluation of factors including trading liquidity, operating costs and investor interest, and said the decision follows years of limited scale.
The ETF has traded on NYSE ARCA under the DEFI ticker since March 2024. Cointelegraph also reports the fund’s net assets were $14.25 million and that it has not exceeded $18 million in net assets.
Cointelegraph notes the ETF launched in 2022 as a Bitcoin futures ETF, had its highest asset level at $17.54 million on May 9, 2025, and was later joined by 10 other competing BTC ETFs that debuted months ahead.
