Zerluma breaks ground on $50M aluminum billet plant in Mission
The 90,000-square-foot facility is expected to create 70 permanent jobs and generate $120 million in annual economic impact, according to ConnectCRE.
Mexican recycler Zerluma broke ground on a $50 million facility in the Rio Grande Valley, with the plant slated to be built in Mission, a city just north of the Mexican border, according to ConnectCRE.
The project will be a 90,000-square-foot plant that will manufacture aluminum billets for North American customers. An aluminum billet is described as a solid, semi-finished block or cylinder of cast aluminum used as raw feedstock for processes such as CNC machining, extrusion, and forging.
ConnectCRE reports that the company expects the development to create 70 permanent jobs and deliver $120 million in annual economic impact. The plant is planned for 300 Trinity St. in Mission.
ConnectCRE also notes the Rio Grande Valley has drawn multiple manufacturing investments in recent years, including a $225 million production facility planned in McAllen by a European automotive supplier, and additional port-related investments tied to companies such as SpaceX and others at the Port of Brownsville.
