Canada trade surplus rises to four-year high in June
The surplus followed a record C$77.5 billion in exports, while energy shipments declined, and trade contributed to Q2 GDP growth.
Canada’s goods trade surplus reached a four-year high of C$3.86 billion in June, beating expectations, according to National Bank of Canada (NBC) economist Jocelyn Paquet, as cited by FXStreet.
Exports rose for a fifth straight month to a record C$77.5 billion, supported by strong gold and copper shipments, while energy exports fell.
NBC data cited by FXStreet suggest merchandise trade made a strong contribution to Q2 GDP growth.
The FXStreet note also points to ongoing currency-market focus, including the Canadian trade update and separate commentary on GBP/USD and EUR/USD movements.
