Hong Kong boosts security at reservoir after trespassers film spillway
Authorities say they have launched an investigation and could consult the Department of Justice to press charges if evidence is sufficient.
Hong Kong authorities have increased security at Ho Pui Reservoir in Tai Lam, adding fences and surveillance cameras after viral footage showed people entering the spillway area while water was being discharged, according to the South China Morning Post.
The Water Supplies Department said it is highly concerned about the alleged rule violations and warned it could prosecute trespassers if there is sufficient evidence, with the department stating it will investigate the video shared on social media.
The department also erected warning signs around the catchment area and other nearby locations to remind hikers and visitors not to enter the facility, and it plans to step up law enforcement operations at the site.
