Bitcoin stays near $64,000 as stocks hit fresh record highs

Bitcoin is up less than 1% on the day and has fallen about 49% from its October peak, while ether is the only major token down on the week.

Bitcoin was little changed near $64,000 on Wednesday, even as global stock indexes pushed to fresh records on renewed enthusiasm for artificial intelligence-related shares, according to CoinDesk. The story said bitcoin traded just above $64,000, up under 1% on the day and roughly flat over the past week.

Ether was the only major token down on the week, slipping to about $1,864 and down 2% for the period, CoinDesk reported. Other tokens were also mixed, including XRP down about 1% to around $1.07 and dogecoin little changed near 7 cents.

CoinDesk also noted that analysts attributed the lack of follow-through from the equity rally to internal crypto market dynamics rather than macro factors. The report said traders were watching for potential developments around a Strait of Hormuz deal.

Beyond crypto, the outlet said Brent crude fell about 1.1% to roughly $78.50 a barrel after a report that Washington, Tehran, and Oman were close to an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. It added that Treasuries and gold rose as expectations for further rate hikes were trimmed.
