Sensex jumps while Nifty 50 edges lower after RBI policy
The divergence has persisted for three straight sessions, with the Sensex gaining more than 600 points, while the Nifty 50 slipped 0.20% on Wednesday.
India's two main market barometers, the Sensex and the Nifty 50, kept moving in opposite directions for the third straight session on Wednesday, 5 August, after an RBI policy decision.
According to LiveMint Markets, the Sensex rose more than 600 points, or nearly 1%, during the session, while the Nifty 50 declined 0.20%.
LiveMint Markets said the gap followed recent patterns too, including the prior session where the Nifty 50 fell 0.64% and the Sensex dropped 0.27%, and Monday when the Sensex gained 0.70% and the Nifty 50 jumped 1.60%.
The outlet attributed the divergence to the start of the Closing Auction Session, or CAS, in the equity cash segment, which became operational on Monday.
