Sompo lands title sponsorship for PGA TOUR event from 2027
The new tournament, set for July 26 to August 1, 2027 at Silverado Resort in Napa, will use a 144-player 72-hole format with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties.
Sompo Holdings has signed a multi-year agreement with the PGA TOUR to become the title sponsor of a full-field tournament that begins in 2027, with the event transitioning into the PGA TOUR Championship Series in 2028, Coverager reports.
The 2027 tournament will debut at Silverado Resort’s North Course in Napa, California, running July 26 to August 1, 2027. Beginning in 2028, the tournament will relocate to a new market that has not yet been announced.
Coverager says the event will feature a 144-player field in a 72-hole stroke-play format, including a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties. The tournament will be broadcast on CBS, Golf Channel, and PGA TOUR media platforms, including PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+.
The sponsorship follows Sompo’s strategic investments in 2026, including agreements to acquire Service Insurance Companies, a U.S. workers’ compensation specialist, and Fator Seguradora in Brazil. Coverager adds that Sompo frames its efforts around “SOMPO Earth Positive Actions,” including services intended to connect homeowners with contractors and support policyholders after disasters.
