Spot Bitcoin ETFs draw $382 million as Coldcard hack revives custody debate

SoSoValue data show $211.5 million in net inflows on Tuesday and $170 million on Monday, while Galaxy Research estimates the Coldcard incident may have affected up to 7,300 addresses and about $130 million in suspected losses.

US-listed spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds attracted fresh capital, pulling in $382 million in net inflows over two days as a Coldcard custody incident renewed investor focus on digital asset security, according to data cited by Cointelegraph.

Spot Bitcoin ETFs logged $211.5 million in net inflows on Tuesday after Monday’s $170 million, with SoSoValue credited for the figures. BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, IBIT, led the recovery with $111 million inflows on Monday and $170 million on Tuesday, while Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund, FBTC, added about $33 million and roughly $20 million on the respective days.

The inflows followed analysis around the Coldcard hack, which Galaxy Research estimated may have affected as many as 7,300 addresses and led to about $130 million in suspected Bitcoin losses from hardware wallet users. Cointelegraph notes that the episode has reignited the debate over whether institutional custody solutions delivered through regulated products could look more attractive than self-custody as investors weigh related risks and responsibilities.

Cointelegraph also cited Farside Investors data showing Invesco Galaxy Bitcoin ETF, BTCO, recorded $6.7 million in inflows on Monday, its first positive daily flow since July 1. The article says that represented about 3.9% of BTCO’s cumulative net inflows of $172 million, and it highlighted Galaxy Research’s ongoing tracking of affected addresses and potential losses.
