Automated train at Hong Kong airport breaks down, delays passengers

Passengers bound for certain gates were redirected to departures-level walkways or a shuttle bus after the Terminal 2 train was taken out of service.

Scores of travelers at Hong Kong International Airport faced delays after an automated train serving Terminal 2 broke down on Thursday, according to SCMP Economy.

Photos shared on social media showed crowds gathered outside the platform doors, while terminal signs said the train was temporarily not in service.

The outlet reports that passengers heading to gates 10 to 230 were directed to use walkways on the departures level, and that travelers to gates 201 to 230 were instead routed to gate 520 to board a shuttle bus.

SCMP Economy also notes social media posts from passengers who said they waited at least 20 minutes without an announcement and that the train had suddenly broken down.
