HPCL buys 2 million barrels of Nigerian crude from Shell via tender
The purchase covers 1 million barrels each of Forcados and Bonga grades for HPCL’s Visakh refinery, which can process 300,000 bpd.
India’s state-run refiners are continuing to pull crude from West Africa as Middle East disruptions make deliveries more uncertain, OilPrice reports, citing Reuters.
In one of the latest tenders, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, HPCL, bought 2 million barrels of Nigerian crude oil from Shell, with 1 million barrels each of Nigerian grades Forcados and Bonga.
HPCL plans to send the cargo to its Visakh refinery in Andhra Pradesh on India’s east coast, a facility with capacity to process 300,000 barrels per day.
OilPrice also notes that other recent Indian purchases have come via tenders from Oman and West Africa, as term supplies from the Middle East remain constrained by shipping issues at the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb.
