Henan exam cheating ring exposed in government job scheme
CCTV said suspects allegedly paid officials to obtain test papers and answers ahead of a province-wide exam in Henan that covered more than 3,000 temporary local posts.
An official investigation in China’s central province of Henan has found a province-wide exam used to fill government-sponsored temporary grassroots jobs was compromised by large-scale, organized cheating, according to CCTV as reported by SCMP Economy.
The probe said suspects allegedly paid officials overseeing the exam to obtain test papers and the correct answers in advance. SCMP Economy noted the case adds to a pattern of similar cheating as competition rises for civil service and other government-backed positions amid slowing economic growth.
The jobs were tied to an initiative aimed at tackling youth employment by creating temporary posts in areas such as education, agriculture, healthcare, and rural revitalisation. SCMP Economy reported that Henan alone had more than 3,000 such positions.
When results were released last month, they were met with widespread skepticism because some successful candidates scored much higher than peers, including scores above 80 out of 100 for multiple winners while second-place candidates reportedly landed in the 60s range.
