Hong Kong security chief says he will target national security risks
Chris Tang Ping-keung also criticized a journalists group’s election process, saying it did not publish candidate names and lacked mainstream local media representatives.
Hong Kong’s Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung warned Friday that he would act against anyone who endangers national security. The SCMP Economy reports Tang also questioned the legitimacy of the Hong Kong Journalists Association ahead of an already delayed leadership election.
Tang said the Hong Kong Journalists Association is not a statutory organization, and he argued that candidates for its executive committee, as reported, did not include representatives from mainstream local media. He further criticized the group for what he described as a “black box” election, adding it had not published candidates’ names or the final list of those elected.
