Indian stocks close higher as traders await Middle East peace hopes
The Nifty 50 ended at 24,636 and the Sensex at 78,785, while Gift Nifty suggested a roughly 82-point gap-up for Friday’s open.
Indian benchmark indices eked out gains on Thursday, with the Nifty 50 rising 0.05% to close at 24,636 and the Sensex up 0.26% to finish at 78,785, according to LiveMint Markets.
Trading was subdued as investors waited for more clarity on the possibility of a peace deal in the Middle East. Weakness in heavyweight stocks also weighed on sentiment, with the market moving in a narrow range near the 24,636 level.
Market participants were also balancing support from the Reserve Bank of India’s optimistic growth outlook following the latest Monetary Policy Committee decision, but remained cautious ahead of key global developments. LiveMint Markets cited an ongoing earnings season as a driver of more stock-specific moves.
In Asia, early Friday trade was mostly higher, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 up more than 0.20% and Topix gaining 0.29%, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 slipped 0.45%. Gift Nifty was around 24,657, implying a gap-up start of about 82 points versus the Nifty futures’ previous close.
