SpaceX to build $16.8B Terafab plant in Grimes County near College Station

The first phase of the Terafab project will require more than $16.8 billion in capital spending and is expected to create 3,000 jobs, with a $30 million Texas Enterprise Fund grant backing the effort.

SpaceX plans to construct a vertically integrated semiconductor fabrication plant, called Terafab, in Grimes County near College Station, according to ConnectCRE.

The first phase of the project involves more than $16.8 billion in capital investment and is expected to add 3,000 new jobs, spanning engineers, technicians, and plant operators.

ConnectCRE said a Texas Enterprise Fund grant of $30 million has been extended to SpaceX. The company’s existing 100-million-square-foot facility is intended to consolidate the production chain under one roof to support manufacturing needs.

ConnectCRE also noted SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk said the company is combining logic, memory, and advanced packaging in a single location and aiming to produce AI chips at scale for use on Earth and in space.
