Typhoon Dolphin disrupts travel for Hong Kong holidaymakers in Okinawa
The storm shut Okinawa’s main airport and closed major attractions and shopping centers, including DMM Kariyushi Aquarium and Aeon Mall Okinawa Rycom.
Hong Kong holidaymakers in Okinawa faced shortages, possible power cuts, and severe weather after Typhoon Dolphin shut the Japanese island’s main airport and disrupted every direct flight home, according to SCMP Economy.
Social media images shared by Hong Kong-linked travel accounts showed empty bread shelves and torrential rain, while conditions varied across the island, with one travel account citing extremely heavy wind and rain in northern Okinawa and another noting temporary gaps in the southern city of Naha.
A Cantonese-language Okinawa page urged visitors, especially those in central and northern areas, to prepare candles and drinking water due to the possibility of electricity and water cuts, while another traveler said two major supermarkets still had sufficient supplies and there was no panic buying.
Several major attractions and shopping centers, including DMM Kariyushi Aquarium and Aeon Mall Okinawa Rycom, were closed on Friday because of the storm.
