XRP slides as Senate delays Crypto Clarity Act vote to September

Bitcoin held near $64,300 as the bill that would assign U.S. regulatory oversight to digital assets was pushed to at least September.

Bitcoin hovered near $64,300 and was flat over the week as the U.S. Senate delayed a vote on the Crypto Clarity Act until at least September, according to CoinDesk. The bill aims to define which U.S. regulator oversees which digital assets.

XRP led losses among major tokens, falling 5.5% over seven days, to $1.02. XRP was also down more than 2% on the day, while other majors showed smaller moves, including ether around $1,897 and Solana near $73.

CoinDesk also cited spot bitcoin fund inflows of about $626 million between Aug. 3 and Aug. 5, which helped defend support in the $63,000 to $64,000 area but was not enough to break resistance between $66,000 and $66,600. The next potential catalyst highlighted is the upcoming U.S. jobs report and July inflation data.

The outlet noted the act would need 60 votes to pass and that it was unclear whether it currently has 50, with some Republicans opposing the measure and Democrats seeking stricter rules related to potential presidential crypto conflicts. Senate Majority Leader John Thune said lawmakers would take up the issue in September, when they return on Sept. 14.
