ECB survey shows median perceived inflation easing to 3.6% in June

Median expected inflation over the next 12 months fell to 3.0% and consumers raised expected mortgage interest rates to 5.0% from 4.9% in May.

In its June 2026 Consumer Expectations Survey, the ECB said the median rate of perceived inflation over the past 12 months fell to 3.6%, down from 4.0% in May.

Median expectations for inflation over the next 12 months also declined to 3.0%, from 3.5% in May, while expectations for inflation three years ahead dropped to 2.8% from 2.9%.

The survey found uncertainty about next year’s inflation decreased for a second straight month, though it remained higher than the level seen before the start of the war in the Middle East.

Consumers reported mixed outlooks for broader conditions, with expected economic growth over the next 12 months improving to -1.4% from -1.7%, unemployment expectations edging down to 11.2% from 11.3%, and expected mortgage interest rates rising to 5.0% from 4.9%.
