EU plans North Africa clean energy trade corridor to cut fossil fuel use
The European Commission pledged almost $5.8 billion for renewable projects in the Middle East and North Africa under its T-MED initiative.

The European Union and several European countries have invested in Morocco and Egypt to back renewable energy development, aiming to form a stronger clean energy trade corridor over the coming decade.
In June, the European Commission pledged almost $5.8 billion in renewable energy projects in the Middle East and North Africa through its T-MED initiative, intended to support Europe’s grid.
The plan centers on deploying solar in the Sahara Desert and wind turbines along the southern and eastern shores of the Mediterranean, with electricity delivered to Europe via undersea high-voltage transmission lines.
