Houthis launch missiles and drones at Marib, killing two
The attacks followed an earlier escalation after years of reduced large-scale fighting between the Houthis and Yemen’s internationally recognized government.
Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis launched ballistic missiles and drones at displacement camps and residential neighborhoods in Marib on Friday, killing two people and wounding 14, according to Yemen’s state news agency SABA citing local authorities, as reported by SCMP Economy and based on Reuters reporting.
Yemen’s internationally recognized government said its army responded early Saturday against Houthi forces on several fronts, adding it would take what it called necessary military measures if the Houthis targeted its units again.
The exchanges represent a sharp escalation after years in which large-scale fighting between the two sides had largely subsided, raising concerns that conflict could broaden beyond current fighting.
The Houthis said they had targeted Saudi-backed forces, depots, vehicles, and military equipment at Yemen’s Sahn al-Jinn camp in Marib with missiles and drones, and Reuters said it could not independently verify claims from either side.
