Severe Typhoon Dolphin brings extreme heat to parts of Hong Kong

Hong Kong issued a very hot weather warning and an amber heat stress at work warning as temperatures topped 38 degrees Celsius in some areas.

Temperatures exceeded 38 degrees Celsius, about 100 degrees Fahrenheit, in parts of Hong Kong on Saturday, as the city’s forecaster warned that the extreme heat would last for several days, according to SCMP Economy.

The Hong Kong Observatory said Severe Typhoon Dolphin was driving high temperatures across the region, with the heat expected to continue into early next week.

The Observatory cited Dolphin moving toward the vicinity of Zhejiang and northern Fujian, saying its outer subsiding air would keep conditions extremely hot for the next couple of days.

A very hot weather warning was issued at 6.45am, and the Labour Department later issued an amber heat stress at work warning, while the temperature reached 34.1 degrees Celsius at the Observatory’s Tsim Sha Tsui headquarters around 1.30pm.
