Comcast Business deploys private wireless for Smartlink at Annapolis HQ
The managed setup combines carrier-grade Neutral Host cellular coverage with a dedicated CBRS private network for use cases like cameras and access control.
Comcast Business said it deployed a private wireless system at the Annapolis headquarters of Smartlink, a national digital infrastructure firm, using a single managed platform that pairs carrier-grade Neutral Host coverage with a dedicated CBRS private network. The office rollout is intended to support enterprise connectivity, including networks for cameras, access control, and occupancy sensors.
The deployment replaces the type of Distributed Antenna System infrastructure that can require separate vendors and separate budgets, and Comcast positioned the Smartlink configuration as a replicable model for other commercial landlords. Comcast said it has already rolled out similar systems at the University of Virginia, The Sound Hotel Seattle Belltown, and Rocket Arena for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Comcast framed the enterprise effort as a growth area alongside a business that still generates substantial cash. The company reported free cash flow of nearly $21.9 billion in fiscal 2025, on revenue of about $123.7 billion, with net income near $20.0 billion and a 16.2% net margin.
At the same time, Comcast noted pressure on the residential side, saying broadband subscribers continue to decline as fiber operators and fixed wireless providers push on price and coverage. The company also paused its share buyback program ahead of a planned NBCUniversal spinoff, and it agreed to a $117.5 million settlement related to an Xfinity data breach, according to Yahoo Finance.
