Ethereum staking proposal would reduce SharpLink’s native yield basis

If adopted, EIP-8363 would phase in over about 18 months and, at 60.25 million ETH staked, would cut net consensus yield to zero.

A proposed Ethereum staking change, EIP-8363, would lower the native-yield baseline that SharpLink uses to market its plan to make a corporate ETH treasury more productive, potentially forcing the firm to rely more heavily on variable and higher-risk return sources, according to CryptoSlate.

Under the proposal, a progressively larger share of consensus rewards would be burned as the amount of staked ETH increases. The model reaches a burn factor of 1 at 60.25 million ETH staked, where net consensus yield falls to zero, and the threshold is described as roughly 49.5% of modeled supply, with “50% staked” presented as shorthand.

CryptoSlate also notes the update is an active candidate for Ethereum’s Hegotá upgrade, not an approved or scheduled mainnet change, and that any permanent reduction would be phased in over 548 days in 64 steps, roughly 18 months. As of Aug. 8, snapshots showed 41.18 million ETH staked out of total supply of 120.68 million ETH, implying a staking ratio of about 34.1%.

For SharpLink, the potential impact centers on variable income streams that sit outside the net consensus yield calculation, such as priority fees and maximal extractable value, plus possible DeFi deployments. CryptoSlate links the company’s strategy to SEC filings, including a May-announced onchain yield fund with proposed commitments of $125 million, consisting of $100 million from SharpLink’s staked ETH treasury and $25 million from Galaxy, though the material described the commitments as nonbinding and not confirmed as funded or deployed.
