AI zombie film for Singapore’s National Day Parade draws high retention
The four-minute short, Bersama Majulah, reportedly held viewers for 85 to 93 per cent of the video, despite criticism about AI-generated content.
Singapore’s National Day Parade audience generated online buzz after an AI-generated, four-minute zombie apocalypse version of the event was posted on YouTube. The film, Bersama Majulah, is described as a spin-off from the Spore Fall transmedia franchise, which blends human-written stories with AI-led execution.
According to SCMP Economy, creator and showrunner Joel Boh said the short film saw a viewing retention rate of 85 to 93 per cent. Boh said the debate around the project, including negative commentary left by viewers who watched to the end, signals strong engagement and cultural impact.
Boh also said while critics have labeled the content as “AI slop,” audiences’ willingness to finish watching suggests they want connection but struggle with the fact that the film was generated with AI. He added that the story arcs and character motivations are written by humans, with AI used for environmental work, visual effects, and scaling production.
