China’s C919 program ramps up with new international route this month

China plans to accelerate certification for the domestically designed C919 as it expands international service, with the first scheduled international route launching this month.

South China Morning Post reports that China’s civil aviation push is gaining momentum as the C919, the country’s homegrown flagship jet, prepares for its first scheduled international route launching this month.

The outlet says the milestone coincides with completion of the maiden flight for a high-altitude variant of the aircraft, and it cites a favorable assessment from European test pilots.

SCMP Economy adds that the effort is part of a broader national push to speed up certification of the domestically designed jet, as China aims to build a civil aviation fleet that can rival Boeing and Airbus.
