ACORD names John Kellington CEO to lead insurance data standards push

Kellington, who spent 16 years at Cincinnati Insurance most recently as CIO, returns to ACORD after previously serving as senior vice president for standards development, IT, and corporate finance.

ACORD, the insurance industry standards-setting body, has appointed John Kellington as its new Chief Executive Officer, bringing an insurance technology and data standards focus to the role. According to Reinsurance News, Kellington previously worked at ACORD from 2007 to 2010 as Senior Vice President of Standards Development, Information Technology, Corporate Finance and Membership, and he also served on the organization’s board more recently. During that earlier tenure, he helped develop the ACORD Reference Architecture, a set of models intended to outline insurance industry capabilities, processes, information and components.

Reinsurance News added that Kellington has spent the past 16 years at Cincinnati Insurance, most recently as Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer, where he transformed the company’s IT operations around an ACORD architecture-led approach. ACORD Board Chair Robert Kelly AM said the appointment reflects the view that technology and standards underpin the insurance ecosystem.

In remarks carried by Reinsurance News, Kellington said the industry is at a pivotal moment for insurance technology, with success tied to how well data moves, and that ACORD will provide the framework and standards to support a more digitally connected and efficient insurance industry. ACORD Chief Operating Officer Tanya Krochta also highlighted Kellington’s long-running focus on data standards and industry collaboration.
