Ukraine drone strike reportedly hits major oil refinery in Russia
The Orsknefteorgsintez refinery targeted in Orsk, Orenburg region, has an annual processing capacity of about 6 million tons, Ukraine said.
Ukraine’s military claimed it carried out a drone strike on Russia’s Orsknefteorgsintez oil refinery in Orsk, located in the Orenburg region, during the early hours Tuesday, as it continues attacks on Russia’s fuel producing and exporting infrastructure, OilPrice reports.
According to Ukraine’s General Staff, the refinery is one of the largest in the Orenburg region and processes about 6 million tons of crude oil annually, producing products including gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, fuel oil and bitumen.
Ukraine said fire was recorded and that damage was being assessed, and it reiterated that its defense forces would continue measures aimed at stopping Russian aggression.
The attack was described as part of a broader pattern of recent drone strikes on Russian refineries, with Ukraine aiming to limit fuel supply to the frontlines, after an earlier strike on Russia’s Tatarstan region killed 12 people and wounded at least 39.
