Corn edges higher as export sales and USDA data draw focus

Corn held near steady levels, with a private export sale to Mexico and analyst yield expectations ahead of the August Crop Production report.

Corn prices moved modestly higher early Monday, with small gains of about 2 to 3 cents, while corn futures were steady to fractionally higher at Friday’s close, according to Yahoo Finance.

The CmdtyView national average cash corn price was unchanged at $4.09 1/2, and USDA reported a private export sale of 286,097 metric tons of corn to Mexico on Friday.

USDA data also showed 29,808 MT for 2026/27 and 256,289 MT for 2027/28. Ahead of the August Crop Production report from USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service next Wednesday, a Reuters survey expected yield of 182.4 bushels per acre, with a range from 180.5 to 184.8 bpa.

CFTC figures released Friday showed managed money added 13,547 contracts to its net long in corn futures and options in the week of 8/4, bringing the net long to 181,946 contracts as of Tuesday. Separately, AgRural said Brazil’s second crop was 79% harvested in the center south region, lagging the 88% pace from the same time last year.
