John Pye Auctions co-founder John Pye dies at age 95
John Pye Auctions said the firm expanded from probate and asset clearance work into a network of auction hubs across the UK and a site in Spain.
John Pye Auctions said it is with “great sadness” that co-founder John Pye has died at the age of 95, following the firm’s growth from a partnership into an “industry leading” auction company.
According to BBC Business, John Pye and Ann Pye founded the business in 1968 as “Furniture & General Auctions” at Nottingham’s old Cattle Market site, where it initially specialized in probate house clearances, cessation of business asset disposals and private chattels.
The company later incorporated as “John Pye & Sons Limited” in 1990 and relocated to larger premises at Banton House in Meadow Lane, near Notts County’s stadium, to expand its client base, before acquiring the former Shipstone’s “Star” Brewery site in New Basford in 1995 as the business grew.
BBC Business also noted that the firm shifted from live traditional auctions to 24-hour timed auctions in 2007, and now operates auction hubs across the country including in Derby, Birmingham, Bo’ness and Margam, plus an additional site in Zaragoza, Spain.
