MetLife Pet Insurance sponsors training for a service dog
The program will keep the dog in puppy-raiser care for about 14 to 18 months in the New York Tri-State Area before advanced training and a handler match.
MetLife Pet Insurance has partnered with America’s VetDogs to sponsor the training and development of a service dog for a veteran or first responder with a disability, as Coverager reports. The company is sponsoring a three-month-old black Labrador Retriever named Charlie, with the name chosen by MetLife employees.
Under America’s VetDogs Puppy with a Purpose program, Charlie will spend approximately 14 to 18 months with a volunteer puppy raiser in the New York Tri-State Area. After that period, the dog will move to advanced training and then be matched with a handler.
America’s VetDogs provides trained service dogs to veterans, first responders, and active-duty service members at no cost. The organization says breeding, raising, training, and placing one assistance dog costs more than $50,000.
MetLife’s head of U.S. Group Benefits, Todd Katz, said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to supporting organizations that create life-changing outcomes, and it highlighted the role service dogs play in independence, confidence, and companionship. MetLife Pet Insurance also said it will partner Snoopy to build awareness of the importance of pet health insurance.
