HKEX to release discussion paper on extending Hong Kong trading hours
The move could mark the first change to the cash market opening time in 14 years, with a later public consultation only if feedback to the discussion paper is supportive.
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) will push ahead with talks on extending stock market trading hours by issuing a discussion paper, the South China Morning Post reports, citing two sources familiar with the matter.
The paper would lay out the pros and cons of longer trading hours and allow public feedback, but it would not include concrete proposals for new opening times. HKEX is considering this step in part due to mixed reaction to a previously suggested change, the sources said.
Brokers have raised concerns about a longer trading session and the potential cancellation of the trading lunch break, according to the report. The discussion paper would be followed by a separate public consultation on cash market trading hours only if the initial feedback is supportive, one source added.
