Hong Kong AI entrepreneur pledges to rebuild David Webb database
The planned rebuild would refresh the database of publicly available data originally compiled over nearly 27 years, covering topics from listed company board details to Hong Kong consumer prices.
Hong Kong-based tech entrepreneur Keith Li King-wah says he will rebuild the free database run by late corporate governance activist David Webb, using artificial intelligence to bring the site into a more modern era, according to the SCMP Economy.
Li said the database will cover information spanning board compositions and reporting speed for listed companies, as well as Hong Kong consumer prices and energy consumption trends, drawing on data that Webb had compiled over roughly three decades.
In his comments, Li also said he would not allow others to continue operating Webb-site.com itself to avoid what he described as possible contamination with clickbait, crypto scams, or other content.
He added that Webb’s original instructions released the site’s data and programs into the public domain for free use, with a condition that the Webb-site brand name not be used.
