Janes Pantry to reopen 20 former Coughlans bakery sites
The Gloucestershire-based bakery said it bought shops from liquidators after Coughlans ceased trading in June, citing high business rates and higher employers national insurance costs.
Coughlans Bakery, which had operated shops in Kent, Surrey, West Sussex and south London, stopped trading in June, blaming high business rates and rising employers national insurance contributions, BBC Business reports.
Janes Pantry, based in Gloucestershire, said it has acquired some of Coughlans sites from liquidators and plans to reopen at least 20 of the shops under its own brand.
The company added that former Coughlans staff will be invited to reapply for roles at the reopened locations, while other sites in the estate are still subject to further discussions.
Janes Pantry said it first opened in Gloucester in 1971 and currently runs 12 shops employing more than 100 staff, and it also said comedian Romesh Ranganathan, who was previously linked to the business, will not be involved in the new venture.
