YMTC-backed fund takes stake in SOI Micro as China pursues FD-SOI
SOI Micro said its registered capital rose to 2.53 billion yuan from 2.39 billion yuan after the shareholder change, with Changcun Industry Investment Fund added as a new backer.
A venture capital fund backed by Yangtze Memory Technologies Corp, Chinas top NAND flash producer, has taken a stake in domestic semiconductor manufacturer SOI Micro, strengthening investment ties in an alternative chipmaking ecosystem, according to the South China Morning Post.
SOI Micro is developing fully depleted silicon-on-insulator technology, a low-power approach designed to complement mainstream chipmaking processes. The company completed a shareholder change on Thursday, and its registered capital increased to 2.53 billion yuan, or about US$375 million, from 2.39 billion yuan.
Changcun Industry Investment Fund appeared as a new shareholder, but the size of its investment and the specific stake were not disclosed. SOI Micro did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Changcun was established in 2023 by YMTC alongside the Hubei Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund, a state-backed vehicle in Wuhan. The fund mandate has focused on memory-chip supply-chain players, while the new move extends its reach into specialized logic manufacturing, the outlet said.
