Bitcoin trades choppy as CPI data suggests US inflation remains sticky
CoinDesk said the CPI headline looked cooler in July, but underlying factors like food pricing, housing costs, and a dollar index not weakening provided little support for BTC.
Bitcoin is trading choppily after a fresh U.S. inflation reading, with analysis pointing to underlying price pressures that may not be cooling as much as the headline suggests, according to CoinDesk.
CoinDesk cited macroeconomic writer Mike “Mish” Shedlock, who said July’s CPI slowdown was influenced by temporary drops in energy and gasoline prices that can make the headline figure look smaller than the underlying trend.
Shedlock also argued that food prices are undercounted by Bureau of Labor Statistics methods and that the index does not fully capture key housing costs such as property taxes, insurance, and home prices.
CoinDesk noted that these concerns could help explain why the CPI did not translate into a broader softening of the Dollar Index, leaving bitcoin with limited support.
