Chinese missile AI reportedly tracks F-22 and F-35-like heat signals

The system focuses on infrared differences between aircraft exhaust and flares, according to the report.

According to SCMP Economy, Chinese missile technology uses AI to track heat signatures similar to those from advanced stealth fighters including the F-22 and F-35, with reported accuracy above 90%.

The report says heat-seeking missiles depend on infrared signals, and fighters may release flares to confuse sensors and disrupt missile tracking.

However, SCMP Economy adds that the infrared output from an aircraft, such as engine exhaust heat and air friction along the fuselage, differs from the signals produced by flares.

The outlet also notes that these aircraft heat signatures could be used for future detection and recognition, potentially reducing the effectiveness of flares.
