CPI shows baked foods and cereal prices rose 0.3% in July

The July CPI for all food at home was unchanged, while the cereals and bakery products index increased 0.7% month over month.

Baked foods and cereal products prices rose in July, according to US CPI data cited by World Grain. The Consumer Price Index for baked foods and cereal products increased by 0.3% in July, based on figures from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

World Grain reports that the index for all food at home remained unchanged for the month. Among 18 monitored items covered by Milling & Baking News, a sister publication of World Grain, 11 rose, 6 fell, and 1 was unchanged month over month.

The CPI details show cereals and bakery products at 293.9 for July, up 0.7% from June and up 3.6% from July 2025. Within that category, flour and prepared mixes fell 0.1% month over month, while breakfast cereal rose 1.0%, and rice, pasta and corn meal increased 0.6%.

World Grain also notes that bakery products rose slightly in July, with an index of 414.3, up 0.1% from June and up 2.4% from July 2025. The outlet cites commentary from the Food Industry Association’s Andy Harig, who said July’s food price inflation reflects the cooling seen in June and highlighted declines in animal proteins, fruits and vegetables, and dairy.
