GIC Q1 profit rises on higher standalone premium income

Standalone profit after tax increased 9.7% to ₹1,922.0 crore for the June 2026 quarter, while consolidated profit fell 25.4% year over year.

General Insurance Corporation of India, or GIC, reported higher standalone profit after tax for its June 2026 quarter, with LiveMint Markets saying standalone PAT rose 9.7% to ₹1,922.04 crore, up from ₹1,752.23 crore in the year-ago quarter.

The insurer also posted higher gross premium income at the standalone level, which increased to ₹13,475.36 crore for the quarter from ₹12,388.01 crore a year earlier. In contrast, GIC’s consolidated profit declined 25.4% to ₹1,620.94 crore from ₹2,172.77 crore in the same quarter last year, while consolidated gross premium income edged up to ₹13,541.51 crore.

LiveMint Markets added that GIC’s total assets rose 5.2% to ₹2,07,789.87 crore by end-June 2026 from ₹1,97,539.62 crore at the end of the prior June quarter. The company’s combined ratio improved, falling by 2.1 percentage points to 104.88% for the quarter ended 30 June 2026, down from 106.94% in the prior year.

The outlet also reported that GIC’s group net worth, excluding the fair value change account, increased to ₹58,406.63 crore for the June quarter from ₹50,045.83 crore a year earlier. Shares were described as under pressure, with the stock down 8% year-to-date and 11% over the past year.
