JLL explores relocating global headquarters to Chicago tower

JLL is considering a lease at 100 N. Riverside Plaza, a 36-story building tied to Boeing's former headquarters and owned with a ground lease running until 2084.

JLL is in preliminary discussions to relocate its global headquarters to Boeing's former office at 100 N. Riverside Plaza in Chicago, according to Bisnow and CoStar News. The company is evaluating lease options in the 36-story, 776,000-square-foot tower, with Bisnow reporting that JLL is considering taking space on the upper floors. The planned footprint is expected to be smaller than the 202,000-square-foot space JLL currently leases at the Aon Center. JLLs move discussions are still early-stage, and the brokerage is also assessing alternative options, Bisnow said. The Aon Center returned to special servicing earlier this year after the borrower, 601W Cos., failed to make a required payment tied to tenant improvements and leasing commissions. Recent office moves by competitors underscore how the market is shifting, with Bisnow noting that CBRE moved into space at 300 N. LaSalle St. and Newmark signed for space at Salesforce Tower. Bisnow also points to Hines and the Stahl Organization partnering to purchase Boeing's leasehold interest in the building for $22 million late last year, after Boeing signed a 15-year lease there in 2001.
