KKR appoints Sam Caven and Marshall Nevins as co-heads of acquisitions
Both executives will report within KKR’s real estate organization to Justin Pattner, head of equity for the Americas.
KKR has appointed Sam Caven and Marshall Nevins as co-heads of acquisitions for the Americas, Commercial Observer reports first. Nevins joins from Blackstone, where he served as a managing director leading investments across multiple real estate strategies. Caven has led investment activity across KKR’s U.S. real estate funds since 2024 and previously spent 13 years at Starwood Capital.
The two new co-heads join Brett Kelly and Michael Osborne, who serve as co-heads of KKR’s real estate equity asset management business, with all four reporting to Justin Pattner, head of equity for the Americas. KKR framed the change as part of an organizational evolution aimed at maintaining performance and supporting growth.
In remarks quoted by Commercial Observer, Pattner said the firm’s approach reflects ongoing investment and a review of how its structure should look going forward, with the goal of keeping performance strong. Pattner also pointed to the value of a co-head model where different perspectives and strengths can improve outcomes.
Caven, based in San Francisco, brings 19 years of experience, including leading acquisitions and dispositions at Starwood across office, industrial, and residential assets. He also worked on the formation of Starwood Waypoint Homes and Starwood Real Estate Income Trust, and earlier worked at JMP Securities on capital raising and M&A advisory. Nevins comes to KKR from Blackstone, where he previously led real estate investments across several strategies.
