Porsche considers ending Taycan production by 2030 amid demand slump
Porsche deliveries for the Taycan fell from 40,629 in 2023 to 16,339 in 2025, with first-half 2026 deliveries down 16%.
Porsche is reportedly preparing to phase out production of its flagship Taycan electric sports car by 2030, a move that would mark a setback for the German automaker’s electrification push, according to OilPrice citing reporting from WirtschaftsWoche.
OilPrice said Porsche management and its works council have agreed in principle to end Taycan production by 2030, though Porsche did not confirm the report and instead pointed to CEO Michael Leiters’ July comments that there were no immediate plans to discontinue the model.
The outlet linked the potential timetable to weakening demand, noting Taycan deliveries fell nearly in half from 40,629 in 2023 to 20,836 in 2024, then dropped another 22% to 16,339 in 2025.
OilPrice also reported that first-half 2026 deliveries declined 16% to 122,306 vehicles, with China down 32% and the Taycan now one of only two fully electric Porsche model lines, alongside the Macan EV. The company’s broader restructuring includes plans to eliminate around 9,000 jobs, the outlet added.
