Twitch lets users opt out of Amazon AI training by default

The default setting allows Amazon to use opted in users' channel content, including streams and chats, to train generative AI models, and Twitch says the data will not be resold.

Twitch users have criticized the platform after it emerged that, as part of Amazon's ownership, a setting allowing Amazon to use creator and audience content to train its AI models is turned on by default, according to BBC Business.

Twitch said users can now opt out, and during a Twitch livestream its chief product officer Mike Minton said the company lets the feature be opt out now because an opt in approach would likely limit participation.

Minton also said any content from users who remain opted in could be used for training, and Twitch stated that the data collected would not be resold to other companies.

Twitch’s head of community Mary Kish walked viewers through how to disable generative AI training through channel settings, which would stop Amazon from using streams, clips, images, chats, and other channel content to train its models.
