Volvo rolls out Safety Coach telematics app for driver scoring
The app will also support data sharing with Volvia, a unit of If Insurance, for potential insurance discounts in Sweden and Norway.
Volvo is introducing Safety Coach, a new telematics app that delivers driving insights and tips through the car’s infotainment screen and the Volvo Cars mobile app, along with a personal Safety Coach score for each driver.
The guidance is based on driver behavior in daily traffic, including braking, acceleration, and cornering, and it draws on Volvo’s real-world safety knowledge and data, with the service powered by Cambridge Mobile Telematics.
Safety Coach will launch first in Sweden and Norway for drivers of many Volvo cars from model year 2020, where customers will be able to share their driving data with Volvia, part of If Insurance, as part of efforts to pursue potential insurance discounts.
Volvo said the app will be introduced in the United States and other European markets over time, with insurance-related offers planned as well, and it noted long-term commercial agreements tied to the rollout, including with Allianz Group operating entities. The company also said Volvo Car Financial Services and Bank of America extended their auto financing partnership through 2030.
